In the autumn of 2021, scientific monitoring at Lake Tahoe showed rapidly increasing algal and bacterial levels on the south, west and north shores of the lake. Seeing the first beach closures due to algae toxins, and knowing that government funding for algae monitoring and mitigation efforts had largely dried up due to Covid, a group of concerned local property owners organized to support this critical research and explore solutions.
